Orca Capture in Taiji - Overview

What is "TAIJI 5"

"TAIJI 5" means the 5 orcas captured on Feb.7th,1997 at Hatajiri Bay
in Taiji on the pacific coast of Japan. 10 orcas were driven into the
bay by fishermen and 5 of them were separated, captured and sold to 3
Aquariums. The Japanese Fisheries Agency said they gave the fishermen
permission to capture orcas for "academic purposes".

8 to 9 m length / 4 to 8 ton weight.

Biggest species in dolphin family and top predator in the marine ecosystem.
