What is "TAIJI 5"

"TAIJI 5" means 5 orcas captured in Feb.7th,1997 at Hatajiri-cove in Taiji town pacific coastal Japan.
They had been driven to cove by fishermen and 5 of 10 of them were separated, captured and sold to 3 Aquariums.
Japan Fishery agency said they gave fishermen permission to capture orcas for "Academic purposes".
